Spring Break has Sprung

It has been Spring Break for almost 24 hours now, but I am still barely aware of life outside my apartment. It all started with a dance last night. I am the class advisor for the class of 2011 and my officers threw a shindig last night. They did a good job, there were no major mishaps...and that's all I have to say about that.

So I went to bed late last night, and assumed I would be sleeping in late this morning. After all, it's been cold and rainy for weeks and I'm exhausted. Unfortunately, life had other plans. The sun decided to come out today, so my south-facing room was FLOODED with light at about 6 AM. It was brighter in my bedroom than in the rest of my apartment. Also I didn't sleep very well....so I woke up with a migraine that didn't go away until about 3:30.

Awesome.

So I have really not moved out of my chair for most of the day. I am off home for a day tomorrow, and plan on sewing this week. I also have some cool posts planned for later this week. See you soon.....

Purses and Plants

One of my friends had to drop off the key to her apartment so I can check on her cat next week, and she had to stop by at 7:45, so I was jolted out of my summer sleep schedule (1 am to 11 am roughly...only interrupted by the mandatory cat demands at 5:30, no matter WHAT day of the week it is...) a little early and was consequently somewhat befuddled for the first part of the day. She bought a purse though, so I forgave her. =) I was having a bit of a block and am running low on fabrics that are both large enough and the right weight and color to work together, so my first project of the day was to get everything out where I could see it. Believe it or not, this is only about half of the fabric I still have in my possession, although I have gotten rid of quite a bit of my stash so far this summer.

Sometimes it helps to fling everything on the floor and stir it around, but this didn't really help all that much for a while. I did eventually muddle around and cut out pieces of several purses that I either didn't have lining for or didn't have thread that even vaguely matched, and finally decided to go online and find free purse patterns. They are out there, but some people cannot write patterns that are easy to follow!! So.....I invented my own, using some handles that I got on sale over a year ago. I like the purse, but I think I need to handsew the top, it is hard to get the sewing machine to go neatly over the handle part. Of course, I have no blue thread, so that will have to wait until tomorrow...there is no way I am braving Southcenter on a Saturday. Uneven stitching and all, I still think it is kind of cute. Thoughts? The cell phone is to show size.

Also, I noticed today that my tomato plant on my balcony is several inches taller than I am. Pretty cool, I bought it when it was only about 10" tall. It has a buch of blossoms on it and a bunch of tomatoes I am kind of proud of....even if I don't actually really like tomatoes all that much. Ah well, sometimes the fun is in growing them, and considering my legendary thumb of death when it comes to plants, I am a little proud of myself. Whee!!!

Summer Projects

One of my goals for the summer (well, one that has kind of evolved over the course of the last couple of weeks), is to make something every day. This is, of course, at the expense of what I should be doing - school work. So today, after dropping off the purse I made yesterday and a bag that I sold to a friend, I made a bag from a pattern off of a website I like called tiny happy. I changed the pattern in several ways, but I kind of like the way it looks now. I also set up my etsy shop, although I don't have anything listed yet. Maybe tomorrow. It is a little frightening to put things out there for people to critique and probably not buy. I am teetering....

In other news, I did waste about an hour today playing on this website...good times. It looks like a blank page, but click on the small gray box on the top left side of your screen and have fun!!!

Lazy Days

I am kind of enjoying my few days off between visits from friends and the class I start on Monday. Today I read about half of my second to last book for the class (it's really good, but I'll do a review later) and then met a girl who wanted me to make her a bag. She was fun. She is the kind of person that not only looks at someone's nametag, but also then uses their name when she talks to them. She seems like a very fun person to be around, so therefore she kind of freaked me out. Very energetic=very draining. She liked everything, but wanted me to make her a bag out of dragonfly fabric, and a lanyard as well, but wasn't sure what fabric she wanted to use or where to get it. We met at JoAnns and she found some purple fabric she wanted for the lanyard (and was super excited that it was only 45 cents for 1/8 yard) and she gave me an old curtain with dragonfly print and told me to make any bag I wanted to and she'd pay me for it. Since she had admired my purse (which I also made), I decided to make her a duplicate out of her fabric and I am pretty proud of how it turned out. I do NOT like the fabric, but most of the stuff I've made for other people is from fabric I do not like, so that's not a big deal. I made some changes to the pattern, including adding pockets on the inside, and now that I have a camera I can post pictures of the completed project. See more pics here...

Bag and Baggage

I was inspired to clean out my fabric stash the other day and make a school bag. I liked it so much I made a bunch more, and as soon as I figure out how to make the files small enough to post them on craigslist I will sell them. You can email me if you want one, there are more than just the ones I have posted, but this is a sampling. PS...they are $1o apiece. =) Finished size is 14" deep by 11" wide, and there is a 2.5" bottom sewn into it. All bags are 100% cotton, washable, fully lined, and reversible.

Quilts

I finished some quilts, and since my parents came up to see me and brought digital cameras, I can post the finished product. S - this might ruin the surprise...=)
