Teacher Appreciation Week - Day Two

This is teacher appreciation week, so in honor of that, I will be posting every day about some of my favorite teachers.

Mr. Nosack was my science teacher during my freshman, sophomore and senior year. First of all, you have to admire the man for being willing to teach junior high and high school while having the tag of Mr. No Sack.

I was in Mr. Nosack’s third period class, so every day he would read the announcements to us and it was a daily ritual to start by saying… ”Announcements, Announcements, An-noun-ce-ments!” and then he would give us commentary on the announcements he read.

He once showed us what dropping sodium into water would do…although he DID accidentally put too much sodium into the water and the explosion hit the ceiling and brought the principal up from the first floor to see what was happening.

I am not very good at science, but that is not because of Mr.Nosack. It is thanks to him that I can impress my students today by identifying various elements on the periodic table by their abbreviations (Pb is lead – because Plumbers use lead pipes), and can tell them what DNA stands for (Deoxyribonucleic acid). When they ask me questions about science, I can actually answer them about half of the time, which is pretty good considering I took these classes 12 to 15 years ago.

Mr. Nosack made science fun using his personality and true love for both his subject and for teaching and that is what I remember the most. So…thanks, Mr. Nosack, you were a great teacher.
