Teacher Appreciation Week - Day Five

This is teacher appreciation week, so in honor of that, I will be posting every day about some of my favorite teachers.
*******************************************************
Mrs Mclain was my 6th grade teacher. 6th grade was, hands down, the worst year of my life. Sixth grade girls are ruthless sharks and I was not a very big shark. 6th grade was the year that my best friend Jenny decided not to be friends any more….but didn’t’ actually tell me until she invited every other girl in our class to her birthday party except me.

Mrs. Mclain was a new teacher that year and looking back, her year must have been rough too, but she was sweet, and young, and pretty, and even then I knew she worked as hard as she could to make it a good year. We studied whales that year…all kinds of whales, culminating in a whale-watching trip to the coast that spring. Mrs. Mclain organized a “grandparents day,” and believe me, convincing 25 sulky pre-teens to sing to their grandparents is no mean feat.

Mrs. Mclain was almost the only bright spot in my life that year, and I am thankful to her for not giving up on us. So thanks, Mrs Mclain…..you were a great teacher.

Thanks for tuning in this week for Teacher Appreciation Week. Here are some links to some of my favorite teachers I’ve met in blogland. Check them out and give them some teacher love as well. Have a great weekend!

Thanks so much for the Linky Love! And I'm always interested in linking up with fellow "educators." I'm spending my day today, however, putzing around the garden, and of course getting into some silliness with Sx3. Please drop by if you have a sec...

This was a timeless story. My daughter had that year in 5th grade. The mean girls were awful.

Thanks for the links. I enjoy meeting teacher bloggers. And thanks for the linky love.
