Despisery

I hate my 6th period. Actually, let me refine that. I hate four of the kids in that class. They are immature, idiotic, rude, disrespectful, unfocused, but especially immature. They refuse to listen, call each other names, intimidate and disrespect other students, and are generally the bane of my existence. When I tell principals who is in that class, I get the stare of disbelief and a commiserating smile - but no offer to change things. When they leave my classroom, I usually have a knot on the back of my neck and have to take several minutes to compose myself.

I have sent them to the office. I have tried calling home (no results). I have tried emailing (no results). I have talked to parents at sporting events, at parent teacher conferences, and nothing changes. If anything, the rest of the class has matured and those four have regressed.

I don't HATE any students, but I really very strongly dislike these students very much and cry a little on the inside thinking about the fact that there are still three months of school left. I hate that they have the power to make me feel this way, and what makes me the most frustrated is the fact that if it wasn't for those four students, this would actually be my favorite class. Other than those four, they are great kids, and as a class has the highest GPA, the fewest missing assignments, and the fewest absences.

I blame the full moon.

Do they act like this in every class? How do the other teachers handle them?

My son was one of "those kids" in high school. He said later on that if he knew he was grating on his teacher's nerves, he would continue to act out to make it even worse. But if the teacher joked along with him, he would be a model student. He was the kid the teachers either loved or hated, there was no middle ground.

It's a shame that you get no help from your administration or their parents. I did try to change my son's behavior to the best of my ability.

The title of this post set me off in a fit of giggles. I have intense dislike for students quite often...but can't remember the last time I detested an entire class!

Since there are four of them, can you not separate them into the four corners of the classroom?
