Shreds of the New Year

There have been some things going on in my family recently that have consumed not only my waking life, but also my dreams, and it is making it really hard to blog about school and teaching and my life here in Seattle.

So in an effort to get my mind off of this unsolvable problem (teachers don't like those), I am going to a zumba class with a friend tomorrow. Zumba is apparently an hour long class where you constantly move, and it is sort of based around latin dance moves. Here's the catch. I am 99% sure that I am missing the dancing gene. I believe that Mennonites had that part of their DNA removed a few centuries back, because I have tried a few times and failed disastrously every time. I am stunningly clutzy and dancing makes me freeze and get tense - and I am pretty sure that dancing is supposed to relax you, or something.... But I am 31 now, and no longer care. Besides, it will get me out of my apartment and give me something new to try. Why not? Maybe it will be fun, and for $5 for an hourlong workout, it definitely won't break the bank.

So to hold myself accountable, and prevent myself from backing out in sheer terror, I am posting this.

Now I HAVE to do it. I'll let you know how it goes.

I hope you have fun! If nothing else comes out of it, I'm sure I'll provide some impressively bad white-girl-dance-moves entertainment. :-p
